First Steps Before You Call

1
Check whether it is just you
If a neighbour on the same AT&T service is also down, it is an area fault rather than your equipment, and the fix is different.
2
Power cycle the AT&T Gateway
Unplug the AT&T Gateway at the mains, wait thirty seconds, plug it back in, then give it two to three minutes to fully re-register before testing again.
3
Test wired against wireless
If a device connected by cable is fine but Wi-Fi is not, the fault is the wireless side rather than the incoming line — that changes what gets fixed.
4
Note what the lights are doing
The light pattern on the AT&T Gateway tells a specialist a lot. Have it in front of you when you call.
Common Faults

Common AT&T Issues

📡

Service outage in your area

Checking whether the fault is at your address or a wider AT&T outage, and what the restoration position is.

🔄

AT&T Gateway restart

Working through a proper power cycle of the AT&T Gateway in the correct sequence so the connection re-registers.

🐌

Slow speeds

Isolating whether the slowdown is the line, the Wi-Fi, or one device, before anyone books an engineer.

📶

Wi-Fi dead zones

Where the gateway sits, what is interfering with it, and whether extenders would fix the weak rooms.

🏠

Moving to a new address

Transferring AT&T service to a new home and getting the dates lined up.

💳

A charge you did not expect

Reading the statement line by line and explaining what each charge is for.

👤

Account access

Getting back into the AT&T account and updating the details held on it.

📦

Returning equipment

What has to go back, how it is returned, and what happens if something is missing.

🔌

Connection drops repeatedly

Intermittent faults, what the pattern usually points to, and how it gets escalated.
